Cllr. James Courtenay
James is the Leader of the Conservative Group at Southend Council, having previous served as Deputy Leader of the Council and in a variety of other Cabinet roles over the years.
James was delighted to return to the Council (having served eight years, 2011-19, previous) in May 2021 to represent the residents of Chalkwell, having grown up in Chalkwell, living in Finchley Road and Crowstone Road for a total of 25 years.
James is passionate about preventing crime and making residents feel safe, having been a Metropolitan Police Officer, so he formed the Council's Community Safety Team which first tackled problems on Southend High Street, but is now deployed all over the City.
Being married with a young son, he is delighted to have spearheaded the skatepark at the old Warrior Square swimming pool site in the city centre, and well as driving forward the Council's committent to ensure that Southend's grammar schools are filled of our children, rather than those from outside of the city
Please contact James if you are a Chalkwell resident and wish to discuss any issues or concerns.
